Philippes Original French Dipped Sandwiches
Philippes Original French Dipped Sandwiches – Kris Doe – Philippe’s has been an iconic Los Angeles landmark restaurant since 1908. Located at it’s present location across from the Union Station since 1951, it’s historic charm and delicious fare beckon back all that have visited before. Merrill Shindler of the Los Angeles Herald Examiner wrote, “. . . Philippe’s is more than food. It’s one of those marvelous phenomenon’s I find myself constantly drawn to in an effort to connect with a bit of L.A.’s too often ignored past. . . What can I say? It’s Philippe’s. It’s the Original–and it always will be.”www.philippes.com

Joes Cafe - Santa Barbara
Joes Cafe – Santa Barbara – Kris Doe There’s just something about stepping into the classic environment of Joes Cafe on south State St. , Santa Barbara. Is it the rich walnut wainscoting and repeating arches that speak of its origins back in 1928 or is it the traditional atmosphere and delicious food and drinks? Either way, it’s always a comforting reminder of Old California when I see that red awning perched above the arched windows and that classic sign with neon Joe smiling down and beckoning us in. Ernie Jr's Taco House - Old Town Pasadena
Ernie Jr’s Taco House was a long standing institution in Old Town Pasadena, long before it was known as “Old Town”. Ernie’s was a Pasadena favorite and the first restaurant that I ever went to as a kid with my family. For 30 years I frequented this restaurant and almost every time was served by the most gentlemanly of gentleman waiters, Snr. Wadi Chibli. When in 1998 I saw that our beloved Ernie’s was leaving us, I had to capture their iconic sign and facade for those of us who will never forget.
